Beauty perceptions and standards continuously change over time and from one generation to the next generation. Currently, the entire world is engulfed with the fever of Korean glass skin. The huge rise of South Korea’s international footprint created natural and sometimes forced ripple effects. With the increasing popularity of K-Dramas and K-Pop songs around the globe, the popularity of actors and pop stars have also been mainstream. Their influence has played a pivotal role in shaping beauty ideals.

The flawless, dewy skin showcased by actors and idols has set new standards for beauty among Indian youth. One of the defining notions of K-beauty is the goal of “glass skin,” a clear, dewy, and radiant complexion that is sometimes regarded as the pinnacle of skincare. The idea of a perfect, luminous skin has struck a chord with Indian customers, many of whom battle with issues such as uneven skin tone, dryness, and dullness as a result of the country’s diverse environment and pollution levels.

As the market for South Korean skin care products grows in the Indian subcontinent and worldwide, consumers will increasingly seek advice from dermatologists regarding their efficacy. The evidence behind the anti-aging and skin whitening activity of ingredients in the most popular South Korean skin care products was obtained from natural ingredients. such as licorice, niacinamide, beta-glucan, snail mucus, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, green tea, pomegranate, and soy.

If you’re looking to achieve radiant, glass-like skin inspired by K-beauty trends, Neya Dermatology & Aesthetics in Jubilee Hills – best skin clinic in Hyderabad offers expert consultations and advanced skincare treatments tailored to your needs. Visit us to discover how we can help you attain your skincare goals with trusted, effective solutions.

Oil-Based Cleanser

Cleansing has transcended from mere necessity to art with years of civilizational and scientific developments embedded into it. Its immense progression is evidenced over several thousand years of simply scraping the skin into an exercise in relaxation. Although currently soaps have become the basic cleansing agent, in many Korean facial kits they have also undergone a sea of change in its evolution with many variants and newer constituents being incorporated into it.

Currently the world has been revolving around the incorporation of natural ingredients into skin care products. Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) has been recognized since ancient times for its ethnopharmacological values. While it contains different phytocompounds, such as glycyrrhizin, 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid, etc, recent studies that experimented on its extractions demonstrated that liquorice also exhibits a broad range of biological properties, including antibacterial, anti‐inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, and antidiabetic activities.

The topical application of liquorice extract is currently being used in various innovative dermal and cosmetic Korean face products as it counteracts oxidative stress damage, maintaining the skin homeostasis due to its high antioxidant content.

Niacinamide based whitener

Niacin, also known as nicotinic acid or vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin and can be available in two forms: niacin (nicotinic acid) and niacinamide (nicotinamide). Although niacin can be obtained in the diet, its antiaging properties, anti-inflammatory, and sebostatic activities can be much more easily absorbed into the skin if applied topically. Nicotinamide is not just a fancy beauty product, but it is also beneficial in the treatment of several dermatological disorders such as psoriasis, actinic keratosis, acne, rosacea, etc. The NAD precursor of nicotinamide prevents the depletion of cellular energy and therefore has photoprotective and anticarcinogenic properties.

While skin pigmentation is mostly due to the transfer of melanosomes that are made by melanocytes that lie surrounding to keratinocytes, the suggested mechanisms for melanosomal transfer could include fusion of plasma membranes, exocytosis (the process of cell moving large materials from inside the cell to the outside of the cell using small spheres of membrane called vesicles), and cytophagocytosis (the process where one cell engulfs and degrades another cell).

Nicotinamide can block the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes by inhibiting the cell-signaling pathway PAR-2 and other keratinocyte factors to decrease melanogenesis (process of melanin production – a pigment that determines skin, hair, and eye color, is produced by melanocytes in the skin).

Various formulations that include creams, gels, serums, and powder with concentrations ranging from 2 to 10%, have been used in treatment for a period of four to eight weeks. Whether cream or serum is used, it is important to start with a low concentration (2%), particularly on those with sensitive skin.

There are a variety of preparations in the market, some containing nicotinamide alone and others including additional ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, and ascorbic acid. A high-strength serum contains 10% nicotinamide with 1% zinc available. This high amount of nicotinamide helps to reduce pigmentation and is balanced by a small amount of zinc to maintain sebum activity.

Toning by beta-glucans

β-glucan is a natural polysaccharide, which occurs in almost all the plant cell walls, especially in monocotyledon strata such as mainly oats, barley and wheat. Recent research demonstrated that its presence is also seen among various other things such as in baker’s yeast cells, fungal cell walls, and some microorganisms, thus establishing its universal distribution among the natural world order.

There is a range of beneficial properties of β-glucan that can be harnessed just by ingesting it. Nevertheless, it must be understood that the biological activity of this naturally available compound depends on the size, molecular weight, conformation, frequency of bonds, solubility and changes in structure. A few of the beneficial properties of β-glucan include prevention and treatment of certain digestive diseases apart from supporting the immune system. It also reduces cholesterol and glucose concentrations in the blood, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The application of laser and related light-based therapies has brought revolutionary breakthroughs for many refractory skin diseases and has become one of the indispensable tools in the field of cosmetology. These treatments not only bring dawn to refractory skin diseases, but also were accompanied by post-treatment injury.

Among these therapies, fractional lasers are commonly used for skin rejuvenation and scar correction. The photothermal and photochemical effects of fractional laser therapy can lead to damage of skin barrier structure, which leads to different degrees of redness, swelling, crusting, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, even scars.

This is where β-glucan comes in. Topical β-glucans have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, radioprotection, moisturization, and rejuvenation abilities which may contribute to management of some skin diseases and conditions.

β-glucan is also a kind of macromolecular polysaccharide, which can form a film on the surface of the skin to retain moisture and adequate permeability barrier. β-glucan is also a kind of macromolecular polysaccharide, which can form a film on the surface of the skin to retain moisture and adequate permeability barrier.

At Neya Dermatology & Aesthetics, we deliver personalized skincare regimens that often include high-quality β-glucan formulations to harness its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects, promoting faster healing, reducing inflammation, and supporting skin rejuvenation. Whether used to enhance recovery or to fortify skin against environmental stressors, β-glucan is an integral part of our holistic approach to skin health.
